My parking lot just charged me 30 bucks for a fucking STAMP on my proof of parking space paperwork for switching the rego over to me. About to drop way too much on cleaning supplies because the dealer didn’t wash it inside or out (part of why the price was so low). Gonna be a long Saturday. Gotta go pay some fees to the police because car is from a different prefecture. Gotta get that roof repainted. Driver’s side edging needs replacing. And there’s a tiny crack in the windshield we BOTH somehow missed. At least my automatcher found me some Fit RS rims he’s giving me for free to make up for it.
LET THE WALLET DRAIN BEGIN.

You have to pay rent for the parking lot, right? The rest of the stuff seems typical of the used car buying experience, but having to pay to transfer a parking registration to a different car when one is already paying to rent the space seems excessive.
Also, will the car get new
plates, or is the purpose
of paying the police to have them register the current ones?

I pay $75 a month in rent for my parking space, yes.
It will get new plates. It has Saitama plates, I live in Chiba now (Makuhari, where Tokyo Auto Salon happens).

I just heard of Saitama while cruising Youtube for anime songs. At 58 sec, she looks 10 years old (I assume she’s like 38 years old). fripSide live at Saitama Super Arena. I assume that’s where you used to live. Also, what else were you going to do with money?

I’ve always heard Japan is notorious for processes where you’re handed a piece of paper to fill out, only to hand it in to someone else for another to fill out.
Maybe I’ll feel some of your pain when I’m in Tokyo next month... that is if I’m not travel banned due to the virus. Two and a half years of planning, fate don’t fail me now!

You need to add in a trip to a cashier to get a stamp showing you paid the fee, and then trips to a couple other windows. And for most things it is probably trips to various places around the city. And it’s frequently trips to two or three windows at each place.
Example:
We recycled some old stuff from our building. It required a trip to the post office where we looked through registries to find the correct model number, copied the info from the book; PO worker checked it, then we went to the ATM to input all the info & pay the recycling fee (which had a fee for paying the fee). We then returned to the PO Worker who finalized our recycling paperwork.
Then it was a trip to the recycle center - sign in at office & give them paperwork, get different paperwork, drop off mini-fridge, get paperwork signed off, return to office & hand in paperwork/fill out exit time and receive receipt.

75 is not too bad. And it’s an official spot. I always figured it would be more expensive up there.

I wanted to say something about the crack, but I'm the one who bought a car in the pouring rain in the dark from a dealer running it out of his apartment. And how did I get ripped off? It had been smoked in. The windshield cracks came later.

It’s tiny. Smaller than a penny. I drove it twice before noticing it.

My car used to be really nice. Then I drove behind a dump truck.
Too bad about the penny crack, but I doubt you will even notice it most drives.
